I came across Korean skincare and beauty around 2018. I’d love to provide you with a guide on Korean skincare is and how to choose products.

After watching some popular Netflix dramas, one of my favourites and the first one I saw was Six Flying Dragons. Curious for more, I Googled Netflix recommendations for Korean dramas and ended up seeing ads for Korean skincare.

Back in 2018, I had two young daughters, aged five and three, which left me with little time for self-care. I saw this as a perfect chance to try something new and focus a bit on myself.

I was amazed I have to say, Jolse and Yesstyle where the two websites that I ordered from. Soon Jung, Beauty of Joseon, Secret Key and Faceshop where a few of my first Korean beauty products.

I found choosing products to be quite easy, and I appreciated that it wasn't overwhelming. The ingredients are clear and simple, and the descriptions were accurate.

I must say that I still use and love all the Soon Jung products. In addition to Korean skincare, I've also tried some Japanese skincare, which I plan to blog about later.

Korean skincare truly transformed my skin and provided me with time for a skincare routine. I focused on simple products and fewer steps. You might recall the trend of a 10-step skincare regimen and layering toners, but I realized the importance of understanding my skin’s needs rather than following trends.

I did try layering toners and managed to apply five layers. Yes, five.

This approach significantly improved my skin, enhancing hydration, plumping, brightening, and giving it a radiant glow.

My routine was straightforward: toner, serum, moisturizer, and SPF.

One of the first toners I used was the Rice Toner from I'm From. I still use it today, six years later. I recommend it for dry skin, though it suits all skin types.

I find Korean skincare to be affordable and recommend exploring their offerings. By using sunscreen daily, you may not need to focus as much on anti-aging products.

So, how can you find products to begin with?

Seek out simple ingredients. Niacinamide is currently very popular and excellent for minimising pores and brightening the skin. Centella is another great option, known for its soothing, hydrating, and skin-repairing properties. Vegan collagen is also trending, and while I usually advise against following trends, this one shows promise. It took me a while to try Vegan Collagen, but it truly is fantastic!

Now, onto my favorite ingredient: Ceramides. I absolutely adore them. They are excellent for maintaining a healthy skin barrier, repairing a compromised one, keeping the skin hydrated, and promoting healthy skin.

Always ensure that you are buying skincare [products from a reputable seller! Yesstyle, Jolse, Stylekorean, Stylevanna, Skin2seoul are some of my go to places for ordering online.
